Like roads, bridges, unemployment insurance. We all forgot what the unemployment line looked like in Florida in 2020. 😢 so sad. But hey there is always someone who wants something for nothing. I left California in 2020 and have regretted it ever since! I’ve lived in Nevada, Florida, and Colorado. Every time I leave- then come back to CALIFORNIA. Once I’m back- I’ll never leave again! The salaries are unmatched even with the taxes! An iPhone is $1000 in any state- I would rather afford my smart phone than be here where average worker makes 40K…Lessoned learned!!! its why California has 40 million people. But hey let the haters hate. Those of us who know… KNOW! I’ll make more money and learn to survive IN CALIFORNIA than make less money and try to survive! Can’t beat childcare that is family. LVNs are making way more in CA. More like $150k a year east with a per diem.

I wonder how Toronto Canada compare to these rates. I hear of nursing grads leaving Canada the day they graduate. I guess this is the reason.

Do travel nursing, rent a cheap room, stack your money, take a long vacation in Southeast Asia after your contract is done, learn other skills that can get you a remote job like digital marketing or data analytics so you can still have income while traveling. Wash, rinse and repeat.

Easiest way to increase salary without picking up overtime is by applying for increase in clinical nurse level! Clinical Nurse IV makes almost 20K/year more than Clinical Nurse II at Stanford <3 And its not too much extra effort to qualify. You should also add nurse levels to your spreadsheet for the hospitals that provide this program :)

Thank you for making these videos! Question... I have my CA license but I am not a resident of CA. Do you know if I am able to have a full time in CA and still have my PRN in my home state? I know you are not a tax consultant, but I would like to stay in my home state and have my full time in CA. Is that possible?

It’s better if you work for Kaiser north. If you want to make money choose 12 hr shifts 3 days a week. Nights preferably. Something they don’t tell you Washington hospital might be the highest paying but they have a problem retaining nurses because of census yes I said it. If census is low especially in the icu you will get called off a lot it goes by seniority. Unless you work the ED even that is not a guarantee. If you’re low in seniority you might just work 1 shift a month and you have rent for 3000 looking at you. Kaiser guarantees your shifts even when census is low. Kaiser seniority is based on hours worked for them. The more hours and overtime you work the faster you climb the seniority rank. Don’t do per diem for Kaiser or Washington that’s the fastest way to get yourself out of a job. Kaiser loves travelers and they will schedule them before they schedule per diem and the travelers most of them are auditioning to get full time jobs because the travel rates are trash right now. Go full time guarantee your 36 hrs and then pick up shifts when they post. Most per diems are not getting shifts and the travelers are converting to full time staff and taking positions rent is expensive in Northern California and having no work will have you evicting yourself from California. 8 hr shifts at Kaiser management has told staffing to only schedule them for 8 hrs not 12 very rare to get 12 hrs if your 8 hrs they cutting costs. There’s my tid bit.

does the 12 hour shifter not make time and a half?

I am writing on behalf of my spouse, who is a Turkish nurse. Are these steps applicable for a foreign nurse as well? If not, what path should we follow? Because we do not have any American visa and finding a job and getting a sponsor for my spouse might be a more challenging process.

Kaiser pays time and half above 8 hours. He's wrong here, I'm a 12 hour employee and make time and a half at the Kaiser Oakland Medical Center. It's even in the nurse bargaining contract.

Thanks for all this, I think at this point we all agree you’re not all about money. You don’t have to explain yourself, I’m all about finances myself and love to talk about it. Only the ones who are financially illiterate, think it’s wrong to talk about it.

Curious how much difference pay for scal and ncal (RN), due to cost of living. In scal, radilogy dept. gets tons of ot, can easily make over $200k with minimum overtime.

@nursestoriches On the spreadsheet how did you come up with the years of experience part? For example at Washington if you have 10 years of experience that doesnt mean you will be hired at step 10. Another example once you reach step 5 , you will be at step 5 for 48 months before moving to step 6. So Im just curious did you factor in the step system at all the hospitals?
